Although obviously not an in-depth account of this period of racing, "Marlboro McLaren" does actually serve quite well as a narrative of the team's efforts in this time. King would have said about today's black leaders, affirmative action, about the war in Iraq, immigration, etc. And yet, as Nasar takes us into the delusions that gradually tear his life apart, she effectively elicits sympathy, first for his family, but then for the man himself.
