Levine received his B.A. in history and Russian from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Slavic linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Levine also studied Russian language, literature, and culture at Moscow University and St. Petersburg University, Russia. He has taught Russian for the past twenty-five years at several universities, including the University of Illinois, the University of Maryland at College Park, and George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. He is currently an associate professor of Russian at George Mason University, where he is also the director of Russian Studies. He has served as a consultant on foreign language education projects for the American Council on Education, and as a specialist reviewer and panelist for the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Security Education Program, and the American Council of Teachers of Russian. Incredibly rigorous, but easy-to-digest, text, a real introduction to vector analysis but it does not assume knowledge on topology nor calculus on mainfolds. How do you describe a book like this? At the beginning it reminds me a bit of the film ‘Moneyball’ where a young sportsman, Chuck Fairlane, is thrown into a big sporting event, but whereas the young baseball player in the film crumbles under the pressure, Fairlane thrives on the football field. While search engines may dish up a listing of possible sites, this book goes further to review and make it easy for you to find what you are looking for. If you can, take a class which uses a different textbook -- this is probably the worst one I have ever had for any course, both graduate and undergraduate..
